What catches people out in India
India writes large numbers in lakhs (100,000) and crores (10,000,000), not millions. A price quoted as "2 lakh" is 200,000 rupees.
When this rule stops working
Rules of thumb rot quietly. This one holds while the rate stays roughly between 25.5 and 26.5 INR to the dirham. Outside that band a different divisor becomes the better one to memorise.
