What catches people out in India
India writes large numbers in lakhs (100,000) and crores (10,000,000), not millions. A price quoted as "2 lakh" is 200,000 rupees.
When this rule stops working
Rules of thumb rot quietly. This one holds while the rate stays roughly between 74.5 and 75.5 INR to the Singapore dollar. Outside that band a different divisor becomes the better one to memorise.
