What catches people out in Cambodia
Cambodia runs on US dollars in practice. You will usually be quoted in dollars and given riel as change for amounts under a dollar, at a flat 4,000 riel to $1.
When this rule stops working
Rules of thumb rot quietly. This one holds while the rate stays roughly between 3,950 and 4,050 KHR to the dollar. Outside that band a different divisor becomes the better one to memorise.
