What catches people out in Vietnam
The dong has the zero problem: 500,000₫ and 50,000₫ are different notes of similar colour, and confusing them is a 10x mistake. Count the zeros before you count the notes.
When this rule stops working
Rules of thumb rot quietly. This one holds while the rate stays roughly between 29,500 and 30,500 VND to the euro. Outside that band a different divisor becomes the better one to memorise.
